Background
I am a Clinical Scientist in Clinical Microbiology at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and will be starting a part-time PhD in October at the University of Leicester funded by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration East Midlands Studentship programme.
Scholarship Project Idea
I am interested in improving migrant health, particularly through improved infectious disease
screening and vaccination. For this CRN scholarship I aim to complete three work-packages:
Work-Package One: Perform a systematic review of community-based screening of newly arrived migrants (<5 years in the UK) for tuberculosis, HIV, and hepatitis B and C in Europe.
Work-Package Two: Perform focus groups with newly arrived migrants, exploring barriers and enablers to community-based infectious disease screening.
Work-Package Three: Perform semi-structured interviews with clinicians and community
stakeholders on barriers and enablers to community based infectious disease screening.
This research will supplement by future PhD work to conduct a feasibility study to screen newly arrived migrants in several community-based centres (including places of worship, education
centres, migrant charity centres, and workplaces such as factories).
